Known as the 'gentle art,' Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and self-defense system based on the premise that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend him or herself against a larger, stronger opponent by utilizing proper technique and leverage to take the fight to the ground and apply either a choke hold or joint lock.
A typical Jiu Jitsu class includes warm-ups, instruction and drilling of new techniques, and situational sparring as appropriate.
